Talk about Cars and Sustainability

Interpretative Repertoires in the Discours of Danish automobile Consumers

Purpose of this study is to explore the value of the discourse analysis in a consumer research context, i.e. an anthropological study of Danish automobile consumers and their talk about (sustainable) car consumption. Based on material from nine informants we have identified interpretative repertoires around a number of related topics: cars in general; e-cars; e-car users; environmental aspects of car-consumption; and negotiations of own behaviour – as well as subject positions and dilemmas inherent in the repertoires. Managerial implications of the findings are discussed. We conclude by suggesting that future research on consumers' discursive repertoires would enrich the theorizing about consumer identity projects.(Unpublished)
